Milan for the Luxury Girl: Everything You Need for the Ultimate Ladies’ Getaway
“Four days. Two Michelin-starred tasting menus. One unforgettable city. Here’s exactly how my mom and I did Milan in style.”
The Duomo at night. Milan after dark hits differently.
Milan doesn't ask you to choose between fashion, food, art, and history. It gives you all of it…and if you plan it right, it gives you all of it beautifully.
I just returned from four days in Milan with my mom, and I'm still not fully back to earth. This city has a way of making everything feel elevated. The coffee, the light in the morning, the way strangers are dressed on the street. If you're a luxury traveler looking for a European city that delivers on every level, Milan should be at the very top of your list.

The Journey There: Delta One × Missoni
The luxury started before we even touched down in Milan. We flew Delta One business class, and Delta's current collaboration with Missoni means the bedding, amenity kits, and cabin details are genuinely beautiful…that unmistakable Missoni print running through everything. It set the tone immediately.
When the experience is elevated from the moment you board, you arrive in a completely different headspace. If you're flying transatlantic for a luxury trip, business class isn't just a comfort upgrade…it's the difference between arriving exhausted and arriving ready.
The Missoni for Delta amenity kit. When the collaboration is this good, you're keeping the bag.
Where to Stay: Armani Hotel Milano
Home for 4 days :)
There was no question about where we were staying. The Armani Hotel Milano is the kind of property that sets the tone for an entire trip. From the moment you walk in, every detail : the materials, the lighting, the scent…it all feels intentional. Giorgio Armani designed this hotel himself, and it shows.
The location is unbeatable. You're steps from the Via Montenapoleone fashion district, a short walk from the Four Seasons, and close to the Duomo. There's a metro stop nearby too, which made getting around the city completely effortless.
One of my favorite things about this stay: we booked through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, which included a complimentary breakfast every morning. And this wasn't a continental spread. It was a full, beautiful, sit-down breakfast that set us up perfectly for every day of exploring. If you have an Amex Platinum or Centurion card, always check FHR availability before booking luxury hotels. The perks genuinely add up.
The complimentary breakfast through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts. This is not a continental buffet.
““The Armani Hotel isn’t just a place to sleep. It’s the aesthetic anchor of your entire Milan experience.””
✦ Insider tip: Book through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for complimentary daily breakfast, a room upgrade when available, and flexible check-in/check-out.
A Must-See: The Last Supper
The refectory at Santa Maria delle Grazie — you only get 15 minutes inside. Every second counts.
If you are going to Milan, this is non-negotiable. Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper is housed in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and the experience is unlike any museum visit you've ever had. You book a specific timed entry, pass through climate-controlled chambers before entering, and then you have 15 minutes standing in front of one of the most meaningful and breathtaking works of art ever created. The scale, the detail, the history — it stops you in your tracks.
Book your tickets months in advance — and I mean that literally. We booked ours before we even finalized the rest of the trip. They sell out that fast. Photos are allowed, videos are not. Put your phone down for at least a few of those 15 minutes. Just be present in it.
Standing in front of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. A moment I won't forget.
✦ Book tickets on Vivaticket as soon as you know your travel dates. This is not an exaggeration.
A Milan Institution: Giacomo Caffè
Giacomo Caffè Milano — a Milan institution steps from the Duomo.
While we were exploring the Duomo neighborhood, we stopped into Giacomo Caffè — a classic Milan institution that has been around forever. The red-checked tablecloths, the marble bistro tables, the unhurried pace. It feels completely, unapologetically Milanese. The food is good but the cappuccino alone is worth the visit.
Delicious Bites!
The cappuccino that made us never want to leave.
Day Trip: Lake Como
Varenna — the village that stopped me in my tracks.
If you are going to Milan and you do not do a day trip to Lake Como, we need to talk. It is one hour from the city and it feels like a completely different world — the kind of breathtaking scenery you assume only exists in movies until you're actually standing there.
We did a private full-day tour with Memento Italy that included car, boat, and visits to the lakeside villages. We spent the day moving between villages — and Varenna completely stole my heart. Quieter, more intimate, genuinely breathtaking. Bellagio gets all the attention, and yes, we had a beautiful lunch at La Punta right on the waterfront there — but Varenna is where I'd go back.
On the water at Lake Como — this is why you book the private tour.
Living my best life at Lake Como. No notes.
Lunch at La Punta in Bellagio: beautiful setting, the bag and the view :)
Ravioli with a view. Bellagio does lunch right.
And then, right in front of us — a proposal. We watched a man get down on one knee with Como as the backdrop. She said yes. The whole crowd erupted in applause — strangers celebrating strangers. That's the magic of Italy.
Engagement!!!

Our captain was incredible — knowledgeable, warm, and full of surprises. At one point he slowed the boat down, pointed out a stunning villa on the shoreline, and told us that's where John Legend filmed the All of Me music video. And then — as if on cue — the song started playing through the boat speakers as we drifted past. I cannot make this up. Lake Como really does not miss.
✦ Book a private tour rather than a group day trip. Ask your hotel concierge for vetted operators, or book Memento Italy directly. Also: try to do a private boat with a captain rather than the Ferry for a luxury experience.
Two Michelin Stars & a Chef Encounter
Cracco — Inside Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Cracco is located inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, let alone Milan.
The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — built in 1877 and still the most beautiful shopping mall in the world. Cracco is right inside on the first floor.
Before dinner, we did what everyone must do in the Galleria — spin on the heel of the bull mosaic three times for good luck. And honestly? The luck worked. Milan turned out to be the most perfect vacation.
Three spins on the bull. One perfect vacation. Coincidence? I think not :)
Dining under those gilded arches, surrounded by that architecture, while experiencing one of the most thoughtful tasting menus I've ever had... I had to remind myself this was real life.
And then — the chef came out to meet my mom and I as we were leaving. Carlo Cracco. He made his way through the dining room and came out to the lobby to thank my mom and I for dining there. Gracious, warm, clearly passionate about every dish on that menu. It's the kind of moment you don't plan for and don't forget.
An evening at Cracco — the tasting menu, the Galleria, and yes, we met Chef Carlo Cracco.
“Dining at Cracco inside the Galleria is the kind of experience that ruins you (in the best possible way) for ordinary meals.”
After dinner, we walked out of the Galleria into the Milan night . And there was the Duomo, lit up against the black sky. Some evenings just can't be topped.
Duomo during the day versus night. Beautiful both ways!
Armani/Ristorante — 7th Floor of the Hotel
Seven courses at Armani/Ristorante — the perfect first night in Milan
Our first night in Milan, we wanted it to be relaxing. The Armani/Ristorante in the 7th floor was the perfect arrival dinner. The Michelin Star restaurant was elevated, serene, impeccably executed. After a long overnight flight, having a world-class meal steps from your room is an absolute gift.
✦ Book this for your first night. Zero effort required, zero disappointment possible.
Aperitivo at the Four Seasons
Four Seasons Hotel Milano — housed in a 15th-century convent.
If you've never experienced aperitivo culture, Milan is the place to discover it. Every evening, the city slows down…people gather, spritzes appear, small bites are passed around, and the whole mood shifts into something golden and unhurried. It is one of my favorite things about Italian culture.
We did aperitivo at the Four Seasons Hotel Milano, and the setting is stunning. The property is housed in a 15th-century convent with a beautiful central courtyard. Elegant without being stiff. The perfect transition between a day of exploring and an evening out.
The details inside the Four Seasons Milano. Every corner is a moment.
The aperitivo spread at the Four Seasons Small bites, good wine, golden hour. No notes.
The Spontaneous Stop: Davittorio Café by Louis Vuitton
Davittorio Café by Louis Vuitton — yes, LV has a café in Milan. Yes, you need to go.
Not everything on a great trip is planned — and sometimes the unplanned moments are the best ones. We wandered into Davittorio Café by Louis Vuitton on a whim, no reservation, and walked right in. Lucky us.
The real stars are the cappuccino and desserts — what arrives at your table are works of art. The cappuccino comes with the LV monogram printed directly into the foam. The desserts are sculpted into LV trunks and monogram cakes — almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. Everything is served on LV monogram china with branded glassware and leather placemats. Completely, wonderfully over the top.
Is it the best food in Milan? No. Is it one of the most memorable, photographable, quintessentially Milan experiences you can have? Absolutely yes.
The cappuccino with the LV monogram printed in the foam. Worth the visit for this alone.
The LV monogram dessert. Too beautiful to eat. I ate it anyway.
The chocolate monogram dessert. Edible fashion.
✦ We didn’t need a reservation needed for café seating — go earlier in the day before it fills up. Reservations are pretty hard to get.
Shopping: Via Montenapoleone & the Mercatone dell'Antiquariato
Via Montenapoleone — the Rodeo Drive of Milan. Prada, Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana, all within steps of each other, all flagships. Shopping here feels like an event. Even window shopping is an experience. And then there's Fendi — the flagship, in Italy, where Fendi was born.
Inside the Fendi flagship on Montenapoleone — the Peekaboo wall alone is worth the visit.
The moment that stopped me in my tracks was finding the Inner Beauty bag from Silvia Venturini Fendi's final collection still available. To hold a piece from her last collection inside that fashion house, in that country — it felt like more than just a purchase. It was a full-circle fashion moment.
“To find that bag, in that city, at that fashion house? Some things are just meant to be yours.”
The Fendi Peekaboo Inner Beauty from Silvia Venturini Fendi's final collection. Mine now.
But the real hidden gem is the Mercatone dell'Antiquariato — one of Italy's most famous antique and vintage markets, held along the Navigli canals on the last Sunday of every month. Vendors stretch along the waterfront with everything from Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi jewelry to vintage Burberry coats to rare prints and Italian art. Curated, not chaotic. We found pieces here that simply don't exist anywhere else.
Fendi was the main event — the Inner Beauty bag was the find of the trip. But Milan has a way of making other stops feel inevitable too. A piece from Hermès, something from Céline. The shopping bags lined up on the Armani Hotel bed at the end of the day told the whole story.
✦ The Mercatone dell'Antiquariato is last Sunday of every month on the Navigli canals. Arrive early.
Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi vintage jewelry at the Navigli market. The finds here are unreal.
A vintage Burberrys coat at the market. The racks go on forever.
What to Know Before You Go
A few practical details that made a real difference for us:
Fly business if you can — Delta One × Missoni on the transatlantic leg is genuinely special right now.
Book the Armani Hotel through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts. The complimentary breakfast alone is worth it.
You fly into Malpensa (MXP) — about an hour from the city. Book a private transfer through your hotel concierge in advance.
Book Last Supper tickets on Vivaticket months in advance. Photos allowed, no video.
Reserve Cracco 4–6 weeks out minimum. It books up.
Time your trip around the last Sunday of the month for the Mercatone dell'Antiquariato on the Navigli canals.
Dress the part. Milanese style is polished. Put effort in — you'll feel more at home.
Milan will change your standard for travel — in the best, most inconvenient way possible. I came home already planning the return trip, and this time I'm staying longer.
If you have questions about any of the properties, restaurants, or logistics, drop them in the comments. I'm happy to share every detail.
End of day at the Armani Hotel. Milan did not hold back. Neither did we.
